It was expected once upon a time that the delivery, will be made by the month of May of 2008, but had been put off six times. The delay has resulted in airlines postponing opening new routes. The airlines have to keep older planes in the air for longer and they have to purchase new aircraft to fill the gap.
The 787 Dreamliner passenger jet has been a total frustration for Boeing Co as it is almost three years behind schedule and billions of dollars over budget, which disappointed everybody around starting from airlines, passengers to hundreds of unpaid parts suppliers.
Buyers all over the world got allured by promises of the most advanced, less fuel consuming passenger jet ever made, have ordered as many as eight hundred and forty seven of the jets having a price of around two hundred million dollar each.
Deliveries getting delayed by as many as six times, the passenger-ready planes are now expected on the runway by the coming fall. It will be for the first time that the company will be launching a new class of aircraft after the launch of the 777 in 1995.
With the delays happening airlines were forced to put off opening new routes, to keep older planes in the air longer and to buy other aircraft to fill the gap. Passengers, who are eager to see wider aisles, more legspace and faster flights, also have to wait. And many Southern Californian major part suppliers who got ready to pay upfront costs for things like labor and tooling found the delays quite expensive for them.
Boeing's share prices began to take a plunge in the year of 2007, and since that year the share price went down by more than twenty five percent. If it is compared with the Standard & Poor's index of 500 large company stocks, then they have fallen just fourteen percent.
