A Tucson’s Hospital Expelled Four Workers for Breaching Patient Privacy

On account of breaching patient privacy, four workers, including, three clinical support staff members and a contracted nurse at University Medical Center in Tucson have been expelled out of their jobs.

The information has been provided by Katie Riley, a spokeswoman for the hospital. She forbade providing more details on the case and just told that the incident had an association with the gunfiring at a Tucson supermarket the inflicted injuries on 13 people and took life of another six. A U. S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was also among the wounded ones.

No information was provided by Riley of those patients whose medical records were confiscated by four alleged persons. The hospital has informed the families of patients whose records have been misappropriated. But, it is not sure if the confidential information has been exploited publicly or not.

The hospital said, "The hospital has terminated three clinical support staff members this week for inappropriately accessing confidential electronic medical records, in accordance with UMC's zero tolerance policy on patient privacy violations". It added that a contracted nurse had also been fired.
