Carnival Australia, which is a global cruise Carnival Company, has been given permission to check behavior of school children on its ships and the approval has been granted by the Australian Human Rights Commission as a temporary relaxation from the Age Discrimination Act.
P&O Cruises is operated by the Carnival Australia and it has main worries with under-age drinking, citing which it asked permission to curb schoolies' behavior on ships, which if not controlled can endanger health, safety and security of passengers and crews.
As per the exemption provided to the Carnival, it could make it mandatory for all passenger children under the age of 19 to get a responsible adult along with them on cruise ships that leave from an Australian port between November 1 and January 7 annually. Also, Carnival can determine quota of passengers under the age of 19 who can go without their parents on each ship sailing between January 8 and 31 and after reaching the stipulated threshold, the additional passengers from the same age groups will have to take their parents or guardian along.
Earlier, the Company has asked for permission to prohibit passengers under the age of 21 from travelling if are not accompanied by a responsible adult, which was not accepted by the commission as it was not fair.
