An alarming rise in the flu-related deaths has caused panic all over. In last week itself, a total of 15 deaths were reported summing up to 27 in all since October.
Many of the patients are said to be still in critical care, with 12 in Gwent and around 50 in Wales.
Aneurin Bevan Health Board of Gwen admitted 12 people, highest in the area. Closely following was the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board in North Wales, which observed 11 admissions in all.
There were other nine patients admitted each in Vale and Cardiff and Abertawe Bro Morgannwg while Cwm Taf reported five and Hywel Dda accounted for three admissions in all.
The interim report issued by Public Health Wales indicated that the people consulting their doctors for flu-like symptoms have boosted from 85 consultations per 100,000 to 93 per 100,000 since last week.
The age bracket of 25-34 had the highest consultations at 147 per 100,000.
Dr. Tony Jewell, Chief Medical Officer of Wales, said that although the rise in consultations has whipped up since last week, still the condition is under control. Most of the people with flu-like symptoms are expected to recover within a week.
He further added that people with flu symptoms should avoid visiting GPs and instead should call at 0845 46 47.
He also appealed the more susceptible group, i. e. elderly, pregnant women and those with underlying medical conditions, to get themselves vaccinated as soon as possible.
