State owned automakers like Chrysler and General Motors lobbied against the gove

Both General Motors and Chrysler, the bailed-out car companies still partly owned by the government, have joined an industry alliance that has lobbied against proposed federal rules on fuel efficiency in this week.

There was an attempt to push back against regulations carried out by environmental groups after the vehicle manufacturers in the last year put in their effort to oppose measures in an auto safety bill, which got the back up of the Obama administration.

The belief of government owned companies opposing the government at times that is supposedly the architects of their bailout - has drawn criticisms times and after from safety advocates ,environmental organizations and watchdog groups.

They expressed their opinions saying that the government should have taken steps to block the companies from interfering with rules that might bring improvements to the public welfare, like environmental controls and safety enhancements.

Ralph Nader, one of the consumer advocates stated that in spite of the government owning sixty on percent of General Motors, the company still was arguing against government plans on pollution controls and auto safety. The government by the virtue of owning the second biggest auto company, of the world could have made the company a model, which they didn't.

In reality the American government used to own sixty one percent of GM after the bailout, but after the public offering of stock in the month of November the stake got reduced to thirty three percent.

On the other hand Chrysler's nine percent is owned by the government of Chrysler, which is a far lower stake. As a result of that GM faces more adverse criticisms for its lobbying efforts. Treasury officials always stated that they would allow running GM in a manner any other private owned firm runs.
