A woman from Featherston had reached back home recently from Nairobi in Kenya. She was in the African continent to provide help to the sick and the down trodden, and despite the lack of decent toilets, electricity and mounds of garbage all around she gave care for a period spanning four-weeks.
The noble soul in question is a resident homeopath, Claire Bleakley, who landed home safely just last month. The woman was in Kenya volunteering to provide homeopathic care to people in the country famous for its wildlife sanctuaries.
Ms. Bleakley was posted in Central Kenya, which is a five hours drive away from Nairobi and falls south of the capital city. People suffering from diseases like tuberculosis, malaria, typhoid and HIV/AIDS came to her for treatment.
Talking about her travel experience in Kenya, Bleakley informs that travel in Kenya was not even of moderate pace, leave alone fast. Buses don't start until is completely filled up and they take random breaks for tea.
Prior to living in New Zealand, Bleakley had previously spent 17-years of her initial years in the African country. She informed that the accommodation, where she stayed did not have any electricity and there were long drop toilets to answer the nature's call.
Though, despite the tumultuous situation faced in Kenya, Bleakley is happy that she went there. As, apart from rediscovering the place of her birth, she came out a better human being and a homeopath. She concludes by saying that the experience you get in a place like Kenya is not even near to the one you get through books.
