Hepatitis A

Customers of the WalMart located in Duncan have been requested by people from the Health Department to get themselves vaccinated against the Hepatitis A virus. The advisory has been issued after an employee at the store was diagnosed with the deadly disease.

The caution has been sounded for people, who bought and ate consumable items from the supermarket and has been announced by the Vancouver Island Health Authority.

People, who came into the store between the 30th of December, and 4th of January and bought salads, chicken items, meat or sliced cheese are at risk of contracting the virus. Meanwhile, people who used the deli counter of the store between the 5th and 10th of January have also been asked to get themselves vaccinated.

However, anyone who consumed food between the 20th and30th of December last year should only check for any symptoms of the illness, as it is too late to get themselves vaccinated against Hepatitis A.

The disease is known to directly impact the liver of a person. It can result in vomiting, loss of appetite, discoloration of stools and dark-colored urine. Though, the condition is not life threatening, but, it can prove to be fatal for people, who are already suffering from an underlying liver illness.

The Medical Health Officer of Vancouver, Dr. Dee Hoyano informed that the virus can result in a perfectly healthy person falling sick for a matter of a fortnight.
