Pricked Special Constable to Undergo Blood Tests for Half-a-Year

Carlos Olivera, Special Constable with the Ottawa police was pricked by a needle, while the police officer was frisking a man under custody. Though, needle pricks aren’t something to worry about. But, the cause of concern in this situation is that the inmate was diagnosed with the hepatitis C and the HIV virus.

Following the incident, Carlos will now have to undergo continuous tests for the next six-months. He was also provided with medication to ward off any kind of an infection.

According to Olivera the medicines given to him were not ideal, especially as they made him feel weak and nauseous. Ever since Olivera has been on the antibiotics given to him, he has ended up losing an astonishing 25-pounds.

Despite, the adversity staring right down on him, Olivera says that he cannot wait to hit the gym and go back to work, as he loved his job.

The man had joined the police force in the year 2002 and had been deployed in the cellblock since the past four-years. His story has been made public in order to raise awareness about the risks that police officials face on a day to day basis when at work. The story has already been published in the newspaper Ottawa Sun on Thursday.
