A laptop containing two years of research work on cancer of two scientists has been stolen, which has become a cause of concern for the Oklahoma-based couple.
Sook Shin and her partner Ralf Jankecht had kept their laptop in the back of their car from where it got stolen. It could be stated as the case of negligence as a precious thing like laptop should not be left in the back seat of the car, which is an easily accessible place for the thieves.
The couple had stored their two years long research work on prostate cancer in the laptop and they had worked tirelessly for the same.
The stealing incident happened the last week when the couple in order to rejuvenate themselves went to a local Panera chain restaurant from their work at Oklahoma University. When they returned back, they saw that the window pane was cracked and the laptop was not there.
"The computer held the possibility of saving millions of lives, but I am afraid whoever took it might simply wipe its memory and sell it on", said Ms. Shin. She added that she was feeling ravaged and guilty as she didn't even keep the back up of the research.
Now, Mr. Jankecht is urging the thieves to give them back their laptop with data saved as doing so would be in the interest of the society. The couple is even ready to pay a $1,000 reward for returning the laptop.
