GameFly takes over Shacknews

The online video game rental subscription service - GameFly, on Wednesday, announced that it has taken over Shacknews, the owner and operator of the site Shacknews. com and game download site FileShack. com. GameFly, however, did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.

The Los Angeles, California based operator of the subscription-based video game rental service, GameFly is now the owner of Shacknews. com, the website providing news, features, editorial content, and forums relating to computer games and console games, and its sister site, FileShack. com.

GameFly stated that it will maintain the editorial team of Shacknews that was founded in 1995, and it will make efforts to expand the readership of Shacknews. com, which will continue to offer the stuff that it was offering.

Co-founder of GameFly and its senior vice president of business development and content, Sean Spector said, "These guys have done such a great job with the site, fostering a vibrant community. We don't want to do anything to mess that up. In fact, we want to build on that."

Commenting on the acquisition, the founder of Shacknews. com, Steve Gibson said, "We are confident GameFly will protect the legacy and community we've established, while at the same time providing much needed resources to expand into new and exciting areas that would not otherwise be possible."
