Merger of Comcast with NBC Universal may win regulatory approval
Comcast, NBC Universal

The proposed merger of Comcast Corp.'s with NBC Universal may get approval from an American regulatory agency today, an essential step for the biggest U. S. cable company to join with a broadcasting network, as stated by people close to the deal.

Four out of five members of the Federal Communications Commission may vote in favor of the deal today, after negotiations during the long American holiday weekend on terms for the merger, stated two people who wanted to remain anonymous because the FCC's review hasn't been made public.

Comcast may face necessities to keep customers' Internet traffic flowing freely and to share programming with online rival firms, as stated by officials earlier.

Comcast based in Philadelphia announced in the month of December of 2009 that it had agreed to take over the NBC television network, cable channels such as MSNBC and USA Network, broadcast stations, a library having more than four thousand movies, and part ownership of the Hulu online video service.

The deal is being reviewed separately by the Justice Department, which has worked in unison closely with the FCC for studying the merger, and the department may give its decision at roughly the same time as the communications agency.

Comcast would buy fifty one percent stake in General Electric Co.'s NBC Universal from GE by paying a sum of six and a half billion dollars in cash and providing with cable channels valued at seven and a quarter billion dollars to a joint venture that will be the owner of the entertainment company.

Vivendi SA, the firm that is based in Paris will sell its twenty percent stake in NBC Universal as part of the deal. Robert Kenny, FCC spokesman did not comment on the matter.
