Fed up of repeated complaints about two supposedly aggressive dogs, Don Call, the mayor of Kansas town McCune, took the matter into his hands and shot dead the dogs with a high-powered rifle!
According to reports by Fox 4 in Kansas City, the mayor had given a warning to Duane Wahl, the owner of the dogs, on January 12 that the next time the dogs ran loose in the town, he would shoot them.
Turning himself in on Wednesday to face criminal charges, Call said that he was told by two children - Kim Gomez, and his brother Joshua - and their parents that the dogs attacked the children; he took the extreme action for the protection of the community. Call said: "I was through playing this game!"
Charged with two felony counts of animal cruelty and one misdemeanor count of unlawful use of a weapon, Call - who was released on $3,000 bon - faces up to one year in jail on each count, if convicted.
As per the records at the Crawford County Sheriff's Department, at least four calls had been received since June about Wahl's aggressive dogs running loose and chasing children.
Though Wahl denied his dogs being aggressive, and said they were chained when Call shot them from his car window, Kim Gomez told Fox 4: "I believe the mayor was justified, yes, wholeheartedly."
