Boeing finally tests Dreamliner after strings of delays

Boeing has started flight tests of its 787 Dreamliner expecting to win over US regulators after a series of technical mishaps and delays.

The company made a statement saying that Boeing has resumed certification flight testing of the 787 Dreamliner today.

Boeing halted all flight testing of the two-engine widebody jet following a Nov. 9 in-flight electrical fire in a power distribution system that forced a 787 to make an emergency landing in Laredo, Texas. The flight tests resumed in late December after Boeing came up with an interim software fix, but not the tests for FAA certification.

It stated that four airplanes were back to flight status and two others are hoped to be flying again within the next week or so.

Boeing said in the last month that it had installed updated power system software and conducted rigorous reviews to affirm flight readiness after it was compelled to halt tests due to an electrical fire that forced an emergency landing.

The company has faced numerous difficulties in bringing the plane to market due to its use of composite materials as well as integrating production in numerous sites.

Late in last year, media reports stated that the first delivery of the Dreamliner to the Japanese ANA, originally slated for February may get delayed until the summer, potentially threatening huge deals with other airlines.

The Dream liners have been considered as bringing in big-jet ranges to mid-sized airplanes that are more fuel-efficient and better for the environment.

The company has stated that the Dreamliner will use twenty percent less fuel than today's similarly-sized airplanes while traveling at the same top speeds.
