Quebec is planning to curb smoking by dedicating this whole week in raising awareness regarding the dangers related to smoking. The region is also planning to highlight the effects of passive smoking.
This week will be celebrated as National Non-Smoking Week in the region. Quebec has already banned smoking in the restaurants and bars.
Nola Leblanc, who resides in Quebec, is of the view that smoking should be banned at every place. She plans to quit smoking up till September as after that she will become a grandmother.
Passive smoking is very dangerous to health and is the smoke that is inhaled by the bystanders. Previously also the Government had taken steps to deal with this problem and numerous health awareness campaigns were organized.
Rose Marie Borutski of People United for Smoke-free Housing (PUSH) is of the view that a person's body substances like saliva and urine show the presence of nicotine even though he may not smoke. The reason behind it is that today no locality is smoke free. Even at home a person is exposed to the dangers of smoking as he may have neighbors habitual to smoking.
Borutski says that she is not satisfied with the initiatives taken by the Government to provide smoke free localities. She adds that much needs to be done by the Government to tackle this problem.
