It has been warned by the New Brunswick Medical Society on the 18th of January that cuts being announced by the Government could have a damning effect on the quality of health care being provided in the province. It needs to be noted that the health care system is already tackling the problem of a shortage in doctors, nurses and other health care providers.
The cuts will involve the withdrawal of subsidies, incentives and other fringes being provided to nurse practitioners by the government till the month of April this year. The total cuts announced by the government amount to $42.9- million.
According to health officials in Brunswick, the province will end up saving funds amounting to $600,000.
Talking about the cuts, President of the society, Dr. Allison Kennedy informed that staffing of doctors had already come to a halt as the government had stopped giving out the signing bonus. He added that the government suspending a recruiting program for a matter of three-months could prove to be very damaging for the overall good of the health system.
He added that rather than tackling the problem of a shortage of medical professional, the authorities were more bent on saving money, rather than ensuring that citizens were provided adequate care.
