Air Routes to be deregulated in WA

The move to deregulate air routes in Western Australia has been received with open arms by the Tourism Council of Western Australia. Though, it has also expressed concerns regarding smaller centres in the state, as they might be negatively affected by the decision.

The announcement was made by the government yesterday, in which, it has been informed that other airline carriers will now be allowed to operate on routes from Perth to Geraldton and Perth to Exmouth. Prior to the announcement, Skippers Aviation was responsible for providing services at smaller destinations.

Talking about the decision, the CEO of Tourism Council of Western Australia, Graham Moss informed that the new decision will help in improving tourism in the country. He added that in order to boost competition in the region, the Geraldton-Exmouth routes will be made operational as well.

Mr. Moss informed that the council was having doubts about the quality of services being catered in Kalbarri, Monkey Mia and Carnarvon. Though, he was quick to mention that before making any more decisions, they will be assessing the services provided by Skippers Aviation.

Apart from that, the state government will soon be playing its part in providing air service from Derby to Broome. The new changes are being made to bring about improved air connectivity in the country.
