Michelle Obama joins hands with Wal-Mart on healthy foods program

Just a number of years back, President Obama declined to shop at Wal-Mart. But his wife now thinks otherwise.

Michelle Obama the first lady joined executives from the Wal-Mart on Thursday for announcing a new program for promoting more healthful foods.

The move was partly her signature campaign for fighting childhood obesity, and Wal-Mart has promised to cut down sodium and sugar and do away with trans fats in the packaged foods that it sells to roughly one hundred and forty million customers each week - or, possibly now the figure plus two.

The first lady had been found stating in a speech at THEARC in Southeast Washington in front of crates of fresh produce that when she sees a company like Wal-Mart launches an initiative like this, she feels more hopeful than ever before and further stated that they can improve the matter of making and selling food in this country.

The announcement was as good as public display of affection for a firm that had long been disliked by Democrats. Just five years back Wal-Mart got involved in a fierce battle with labor groups that brought charges against it of paying low wages and providing miserly health benefits.

Hillary Rodham Clinton who was then a Senator returned a campaign contribution from the company, giving example of serious differences. Michelle Obama gave her resignation from the board of a Wal-Mart supplier during her husband's campaign.

President Barack Obama himself also told supporters at an AFL-CIO forum in the year 2007 that he would not shop at Wal-Mart.

Robert Gibbs, Obama press secretary said on Thursday that lots have happened since the year of 2007 and further stated that the time has changed for all of them.
