It sounds like the Microsoft-Netflix partnership is flourishing. On Thursday, Microsoft and Netflix announced that 1 million users of Microsoft Xbox 360 video game console activated the movie streaming service in the past three months, since the two companies got into partnership.
According to Microsoft and Netflix, one million members of Xbox Live Gold downloaded the Netflix application since its November launch, and in aggregation, the Xbox Live members watched 1.5 billion minutes of movies and TV episodes over the past three months.
The Microsoft-Netflix deal lets the subscribers of Xbox Live and Netflix to access the 12,000 streaming movies and TV shows from Netflix's "Watch Instantly" library, through the Xbox.
Netflix's announcement indicates that the online DVD Company performed well last year. The company announced amazingly strong growth in its fourth quarter and posted stronger-than-expected quarterly results. According to the company, the major reason for its good results is “growth in its Web video streaming service”.
Reed Hastings, the Netflix CEO, gives the credit of the company’s success to its partnerships with consumer electronics companies, which really helped the company to their client added to set-top boxes, Blu-ray players, and even HDTVs.
Best known for its online DVD rental service by mail, Los Gatos, California based Netflix is the only company that provides a subscription-based streaming video service, while its rivals, such as Amazon.com, Apple, and Blockbuster compete with a la carte, pay-per-view rentals.
