Some of you might be confused about the Memoir, whether it’s a camera or a phone. Well, the Samsung Memoir, which was announced by Samsung and T-Mobile on Thursday, is first 8-megapixel cameraphone.
Also known as SGH-T929, the Samsung Memoir looks more like a digital camera, but it has big touch screen running Samsung's own TouchWiz interface that lets a user dial or type using a virtual keyboard. The wonderful cameraphone is equipped with the powerful lens for autofocus 8-megapixel camera with a bright Xenon flash.
Samsung stated that the Memoir is a multimedia cameraphone. It has a camera with 16x digital zoom, but no optical zoom. The camera has five shooting modes, including video recording. The Memoir cameraphone is capable of automatically uploading photos to internet-based services, such as Flickr, Photobucket, Snapfish or Kodak gallery. The Memoir also has stereo Bluetooth, a speakerphone, voice dialing, assisted GPS, a Web browser, IM, and e-mail capabilities.
T-Mobile stated that the 3G Samsung Memoir, featuring full HTML browser, a virtual QWERTY keyboard, and a number of other multimedia features, will work on the 3G network of T-Mobile.
However, Samsung and T-Mobile neither announced any exact date of the Memoir’s launch nor did they release any information about its price. According to the market speculators, the cameraphone is expected to be launched on February 25 and it will be priced around $299.
According to analysts, the Samsung Memoir has several drawbacks. It is not a smartphone. It lacks Wi-Fi, the thing that will disappoint many. It’s in no way rival to Apple’s iPhone. But overall, it’s a good device for photography fans.
