With the few confirmed cases of cholera among the four-hundred people, who returned from Dominican Republic, a wave of panic was observed in Venezuela.
The people, who are the nationals of Venezuela only, went to Dominican Republic to attend an event, where they contracted the disease through contaminated food.
It is after 1992 that cholera cases have been reported in Venezuela. In 1992, the country suffered from the major cholera outbreak, which claimed the lives of nearly 70 people and contracted 3,000 people.
However, Eugenia Sader, the Health Minister of Venezuela, said that the countrymen need not to panic with the recent cases, as the country has “very slim” chances of contracting cholera.
Sader said that they have suspected and confirmed all the cholera cases and Government is taking all precautionary measures by supplying potable drinking water.
He further appealed to people to wash their hands as well as food before consuming it and asked everyone to take care of themselves.
The Dominican Republic is currently going through the cholera outbreak, with 244 people infected with this water-borne disease since the beginning of this year. On Sunday itself, a death was reported for the same.
The Dominican Republic contracted the disease after it first struck to Haiti, post earthquake, in October last year.
