Leaders are said to have assembled in Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum in the wake of the protests in Egypt. As the protests persist to intensify and get worse, the leaders reportedly addressed them and the communication shutdown in the country.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon criticized the Egyptian authorities saying that freedom of expression is one thing that must be respected and that the internet takedown was not an advisable solution. He further said that this was against the democratic principles of expression and association pointing at the decision to cut off the internet access.
And as was very much expected the only ones missing from the forum were the members of the official Egyptian delegation. These people are said t have deliberately pulled themselves from attending the forum.
Despite several attempts by the participants of the exclusive meet to avoid talking about the protests going on in Egypt, the unrest that has been caused resulted in it still being a topic of discussion among the attendees.
Vittorio Colao, CEO of Vodafone Group PLC, a telecommunications company shared saying that the Egyptian authorities had asked his Company to shut down the network completely and they had to comply to it as the decision was supported by the Egyptian law.
