Baidu will expand its Social-Networking Services, for challenging rival Tencent

Baidu Inc. stated that it has plans to develop more social-networking services, as the owner of the biggest search engine of China follows Tencent Holdings Ltd. its Chinese Internet rival in expanding its product line to win users.

The commercial value of social products is significant, stated Robin Li; Baidu Chief Executive Officer over a conference call today after the Beijing-based company released its fourth-quarter earnings that surpassed analysts' estimates. Baidu is the operator of the Tieba information-sharing site, which aims to gain more revenue from similar social services, stated Li.

The largest Internet Company of China, Tencent, is stretching its social-networking services as world wide industry leader Facebook Inc.'s site has been inaccessible in Chinese online market for more than a year. Baidu is widening out from its search-engine business after overcoming a challenge from Google Inc. whose market share got reduced in China after a censorship feud with regulators.

Muzhi Li, at Mizuho Securities Co in Hong Kong stated that they want to be in everything, who advices to buy Baidu's shares. Baidu can gain users by expanding its social networking services, he said in a phone interview today.

Baidu went up in the tune of 9.1 percent as seen in extended trading in the United States after the Chinese company stated that its fourth-quarter profit went up to 1.16 billion Yuan which is one hundred and seventy six million dollars from 427.9 million Yuan a year earlier.

It surpassed the figure of 1.03 billion yuan average of eight analysts' estimates that had been compiled by Bloomberg. Earlier, Baidu went up in the tune of two percent to reach one hundred and eight dollars and sixty three cents as seen on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
