In the last five years, the sales of the gluten-free products have risen 3 times. The gluten-free products are now not bounded to breads and pastas. It is now almost possible to buy from gourmet gluten-free cookies to gluten-free pizzas.

According to statistical reports by Rockville’s research, it is found that the gluten-free products have reached $2.6 billion in 2010. It was earlier $935 million in 2006. The firm predicts that this will increase to $5.5 billion in 2011.

The gluten-free food has now become the part of the diet. It is in the mainstream. The celiac disease, an autoimmune disease requires a patient to have gluten-free food. This is believed to be 4 times common than it was before 50 years. However, the celiac disease happens to only 1 percent people. Therefore, it is not the driving force behind the extensive eating of gluten-free food.

“It’s super trendy right now”, says Delainy Mackie, founder of the Gluten Free Epicurean bakery service in Vancouver.

“I think people are associating it with being healthy, which in some cases is very true”, she says.

In supermarkets and other natural food stores, the demand of the gluten-free food has increased over 10 percent in the recent years.
