In order to bring back “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “The Colbert Report” to the content platform, Hulu has just entered into a content partnership with Viacom. But the financial terms included in the new agreement are not revealed.
Under this deal, other TV Shows from Viacom’s media networks like Comedy Central, MTV, BET, VH1, Spike TV, and TV Land to the Hulu Plus subscription service will also be telecasted. Last March, Viacom had taken two Comedy Central shows from Hulu.
In June 2008, when Hullu for the first time persuaded Viacom to allocate Colbert and The Daily Show, this deal was a major landmark for the newly established video service. Consequently, Viacom had taken the content saying that Colbert and Jon Stewart mean more to them than Hulu. The reason behind this was that Viacom was not actually monetizing the content on Hulu. So, even now this deal is very important for Hulu.
But now Hulu is in better position than before. Its potentiality has increased with earning of millions of revenue, extensive advertising, and good subscription plans. Not only this, this year, Hulu Plus as a business will have a revenue run rate worth of $200 million and its subscriber count will increase to 1 million. At present Hulu has a customer base of 30 million per month. Seeing all this, Viacom has struck a deal with Hulu.
The deal has once again put back faith of big media Companies in the platform and will also be beneficial for Hulu’s IPO that has been scheduled for 2011.
