It’s been established that high school student, posing as teenage girl, used the Facebook to trick male classmates to obtain their nude photos and then blackmailed them to performing sex acts.
Anthony Stancl, 18-year-old New Berlin Wisconsinite, has been charged with sexual assault and accused of pretending as a girl, persuading male schoolmates to send nude photos and then blackmailing them.
According to the police, after getting nude photos of his male schoolmates, Stancl threatened them that he would circulate the photos to the whole school, and blackmailed them to have sex with him. He was able to get the nude photos of 31 boys, and he abused at least seven sexually; he abused victims in school bathrooms, parking lot, and in the homes of some victims, who are helping police in investigations.
Facebook acknowledge the incident and urged the users to refuse friend requests from strangers to stay safe. In its e-mail statement, the social networking site said, "Facebook seeks to provide a safe and trusted environment by offering users industry-leading tools that control access to their information, through our proactive monitoring and investigation systems, and our collaborative relationship with law enforcement. Our hearts go out to the victims, and we encourage everyone to exercise caution when connecting with others unknown to them online or otherwise."
The social networking site explained, "Facebook is about enhancing real-world relationships, not just adding as many friends as you can. Be wary if you receive friend requests or messages from people you do not know and don't feel bad if you choose to ignore them."
