According to Verizon Wireless, the sales of its CDMA iPhone version – which was made available for preorder on Thursday, February 3 - were quite brisk; with the first two hours of the device’s availability witnessing notably more sales than the one-day total sales of any other device that the carrier has launched thus far.
The Verizon iPhone, which will officially be launched on February 10, was available for preorder to existing customers of the carrier on Thursday. The strong demand for the handset forced the carrier – which is touting record first-day sales of the device - stopped taking orders at night.
Specifically speaking, Verizon revealed that between 3 a. m. and 5 a. m. EST, it took more orders of iPhones as compared to its earlier blockbuster handsets like the Droid from Motorola Mobility Holdings, and the Storm from Research in Motion. However, the carrier has not disclosed the actual number of iPhones that were ordered on the first day.
Talking about the iPhone’s “unprecedented customer orders” that were placed with Verizon on Thursday, Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead said in a Friday statement: “Overall, it was a very good day. Yesterday's launch set the pace for next week when we open up sales to everyone across America.” After the popular Apple iPhone’s forthcoming launch on Verizon next week, the handset will be available from Best Buy and Wal-Mart Stores; other than the Verizon Wireless and Apple stores.
