Officer Karen Smith confirmed to PEOPLE, R&B singer Chris Brown surrendered to Los Angeles police Sunday evening, regarding an ongoing felony battery investigation of the singer.
Brown, 19, was taken into custody and officially booked for making criminal threats. Posting a $50,000 bail, Brown was later released.
Singer Rihanna who was scheduled to appear at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards, pulled out after police announced they were investigating an assault claim against her boyfriend, R&B star Chris Brown. Apparently, Brown, had an argument with an unidentified woman Saturday night, with the fight escalating on getting out of a car.
As the second performance of the night, Rihanna was scheduled to sing 'Live Your Life/Disturbia', while Brown was slated to sing 'Forever' at the Grammy awards. As well, both received nominations in the pop collaboration with vocals category, Brown for 'No Air' together with Jordin Sparks, the American Idol winner Jordin Sparks; and Rihanna for 'If I Never See Your Face Again' with Maroon 5. Brown's 'Take You Down' also received a nomination for male R&B vocal performance.
