Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Early Grammy Winners

Pre-telecast Grammy Awards saw Coldplay win in the Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals for 'Viva la Vida'. Weezer got an award for their 'Pork and Beans' video. Justice won for their remix of 'Electric Feel', Rick Rubin, producer-turned-label-boss won for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical for work on Metallica, Neil Diamond, Ours, Jakob Dylan and Weezer albums.

Lil Wayne won for 'Lollipop' in the Best Rap Song category and for 'A Milli' in the Best Rap Solo Performance. Kanye West might not want any more awards, but that didn't stop him from winning the Best Rap/ Sung Collaboration trophy, hooking up with Estelle on for 'American Boy'. Weezy and 'Ye together with Jay-Z and T. I. won for the Best Duo or Group Performance for 'Swagga Like Us'. Jack White of The White Stripes' got the award for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical for the Raconteurs' Consolers of the Lonely. The 'Juno' soundtrack won for the Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media, while big winners Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, won in the Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album for 'Raising Sand' and Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for 'Killing the Blues' and record of the year for 'Please Read The Letter'.

Carrie Underwood , former 'American Idol' won Best Female Country Vocal Performance for 'Last Name', performing it later on the show.

Mary J. Blige celebrated early, winning Best Contemporary R&B Album for 'Growing Pains', with production duo StarGate snagging Best R&B Song for their work on Ne-Yo's 'Miss Independent' that also won the Best R&B Vocal Performance. Will. I. Am's won for Best Urban/Alternative Performance for his work on Chrisette Michele's 'Be O. K.'

Alicia Keys won Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for her 'Superwoman'. Radiohead won for their landmark 'In Rainbows' album, including Best Alternative Music Album, but were thwarted in the Best Rock Song category, along with Coldplay, Kings of Leon and Death Cab, losing out Bruce Springsteen's 'Girls in Their Summer Clothes'.

Metallica won Best Metal Performance for 'My Apocalypse', while Mars Volta struck first gold for 'Wax Simulacra' in the Best Hard Rock Performance category. Nominated for the first time, Kings of Leon beat Radiohead, the Eagles, Coldplay and AC/DC in the Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals for the raunchy 'Sex on Fire'. And beating out stiff competition from Paul McCartney, Springsteen, Eddie Vedder and Neil Young, John Mayer won Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for 'Gravity'.

Daft Punk scored the Best Electronic/Dance Album for 'Alive 2007', with Lady Gaga winning in the Best Dance Recording category for 'Harder Better Faster Stronger'.
