With Intel Monday deciding to stall the shipments of the chipset accompanying its second-generation Intel Core processor – called ‘Sandy Bridge’ – due to a flaw, Best Buy representatives have revealed that the Intel decision will bring some new product rollouts at the Best Buy to a screeching halt.
Intel has stopped the shipments because of a flaw which can affect access to some devices – including hard-disk drive, optical drive, and others - that connect to a computer via SATA technology.
The Intel ‘Sandy Bridge’ chi lineup, which was officially released at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, is the first mainstream processor that integrates graphics silicon directly onto the main processor. In addition, it is also the first chip line based entirely on Intel’s innovative 32-nanometer manufacturing process.
Meanwhile, according to the information shared by Best Buy sales representatives in California, despite the fact only a relatively few Sandy Bridge-based systems were for sale at Best Buy prior to the Intel disclosure on Monday, a number of systems were apparently on the cards.
Speaking more specifically, while a Silicon Valley Best Buy representative said, during a telephonic conversation, that the store was expecting three laptops and four desktops; a suburban Los Angeles Best Buy representative stated that “a lot” of systems, which were supposedly slated for sale earlier, had been “caught” before they arrived at the store.
