Ever since ThredUP was launched in the month of April, it is said to have shipped as many as 25,000 boxes of hand-me-down clothing and toys between its community of mothers. And it thinks that it is high time now to start acting as a place for them to exchange their ideas.
It is now said to have acquired Momologie, which is a free site and newsletter run by two former editors of Martha Stewart Living. And now in addition to managing hand-me-down exchanges the ThredUP’s website will also host a daily discussion around a single magazine-style article.
The basic business model would however not undergo any changes. All the parents who would register for the site would be getting shipping boxes in the mail, who would then fill them with outgrown clothing and toys, and list their contents on the site.
“We think about high-quality content in the same way that we think about customer acquisition in other channels, and it’s just another way for us to deepen engagement among our community of moms”, said ThredUP CEO and founder James Reinhart.
He further said that they had plans to build up a better community with deeper engagement for they believed that this would help make the business much more powerful.
