A New “Answer Ranking Scheme” Introduced By Quora

People began to ask various questions about ranking system of Quora when an answer given by Robert Scoble moved Quora into astonishing condition. Though, Robert felt nervous at this but the whole incident was entertaining.

Quora co-founder, Charlie Cheever, in response to these questions, affirmed that his team is developing an algorithm, in order to determine the quality of users. The algorithm is almost same as that of Page Rank, but signals on Quora are different from those on web, because people are not like pages. It will be used to make a decision on the data to be shown in feeds, exact time of sending notifications and method to be used for ranking answers.

Today, details about Quora “Answer Ranking Scheme “are posted by fellow co-founder, Adam D’Angelo. The main ethics to be followed by Quora includes: answers with more up votes are ranked higher and those with more down votes are ranked lower, users with good past record of answers are given more weightage and are ranked higher, scores are not affected by whether user is an admin or reviewer, and votes from users which are found to be doing wrong with the system will be ignored.

Anonymous answers are included because Quora will identify the user. But the information about it will not be disclosed.

Thus, whole system of ranking answers by Quora is simple and easily understandable.
