Court Sets Date For The Mother Of The Baby

After a baby was found in a toilet on Friday, the Greenville Police arrested an Easley woman and charged her with felony child abuse and unlawful neglect of a child on Tuesday.

According to the Police Chief Terri Wilfong, Jessica Ann Blackham, 24, of Easley, gave birth to a baby boy in the bathroom of the Bi-Lo Centre during the circus on Friday.

Blackham attended the circus with a family member according to the chief. At some point in the night, she went to the bathroom and gave birth to the child. Later the child was found by the maintenance staff. The baby was just an hour and a half-old when found.

"We don't think it's physically possible that the mother would not know she had given birth to this child”, said Sgt. Jason Rampey, Greenville PD

Wilfong also said that they discovered the mother after she went to a medical centre for treatment Saturday. Afterwards the police contacted the mother and convinced her to come to the Greenville Law Enforcement Centre. She was later arrested by the investigator over there.

Solicitor Walt Wilkins claims that his office will prosecute case vigorously. He also says he consider the children the most precious resource.
