Gowalla Has Made the World “A Social Atlas” By Introducing Highlight Feature

Gowalla, a location-based social networking service, is skilfully gathering information from different sources to update new features into its site, so as to induce more consumers towards it.

Today, it has made certain changes in its site and had made it convenient to use. If one wants to know fascinating things about a city, it is now easier to find by Venue activity, views of people and photos available on it. It’s easier to share and bookmark spots and locating spots on maps have also been improved.

Apart from all these, updating Highlights feature is its main addition, which has given it an edge over other similar sites. It wanted to make world, “a social atlas”. Earlier, users were able to allocate only one place per category. But, now, one can add several spots to various new categories.  There are around 40 different Highlight types ranging from “Burgers We Love” to “My Happy Place”.

By the next week, iPhone will be upgraded with this feature. Highlights added by friends will be displayed as soon as user will sign-in into the website. And shortly, users will be able to look around various spots filtered by Highlight categories.

Gowalla was launched two years ago in completion to Foursquare. Josh Williams, co-founder of Gowalla, said that they are just a month away from SXSW which is held in Gowalla’s home, turf of Austin, Texas. Since its launch, till now, Gowalla’s users have formed and visited over 2.5 million locations around the world. It is now targeted to have one million users only in this month.
