The leading manufacturers of automobile parts in Thailand have warned of spike in the prices of their products after National Economic and Social Advisory Council announced for a proposed ban on the use of asbestos in the country.
One of the manufacturers, Suwit Panyasewanamit, said that no less than 80% of their operations are dependent on asbestos. Ban on its usage means additional costs on them, which will be subsequently passed on to consumers.
It is quite well known that the exposure of asbestos is very dangerous can lead to deadly diseases like lung cancer, asbestosis and mesothelioma.
The diseases caused by asbestos fibers are only detected at their advanced stages and thus, it becomes pretty difficult to treat them. Due to this, millions of people lose their lives every year.
Although, asbestos is very important for economical growth as it is used in numerous industries, but, its disadvantages can never be ruled out.
Asbestos is common component in manufacturing of roofing sheets, floor tiles, cements, textiles, insulation etc and that is the reason, why after the prohibition on its usage, it is still widely considered by manufacturers and industrialists.
Market analysts have also speculated that ban can plunge the economic condition of the country can cause a sharp spur in the prices of various commodities.
