Apptism: Apple’s App Store has 20,000 applications

There are currently over 20,000 applications available in Apple's App Store for iPhone and iPod touch users, says Apptism, that site that tracks iPhone applications. According to Apptism, the App Store got the 20,000th iPhone app some time on Tuesday.

Rob Libbey of Apptism reported that his site tracks the App Store on hourly basis and it provides constant, authentic, and latest updates on the total number of apps available. He also reported that the very current number of applications has surpassed 20,000 to reach 20,150 apps.

Apple announced that it had 10,000 apps in the store on December 5. On Jan 16, Apple officially claimed that it had 15,000 applications available in its store. Now, if apptism's report is authentic, it would mean that Apple added over 5,000 new applications to its App Store in less than a month.

When Apple was contacted for comment, it declined to comment and confirm the number of apps available for download. Thus, it is still unclear whether Apptism's update is authentic or mere influenced by market rumors.
