In order to ensure the safety of babies using their cribs, IKEA has announced a voluntary recall of one of their products. The baby crib, Singlar 70 x 132 has been recalled on precautionary basis by the furniture manufacturer.
According to the information released by the Company, bolts under the mattress of some of the cribs were not long enough and could result in the mattress collapsing. It has been warned by IKEA that the product can lead to a child suffocating to death and might result in it being trapped inside the furniture.
Consumers have been advised to check bolts under the mattresses to ensure that they are not too short. If the bolt is found to be a little too short, people have been advised to stop using the product immediately, as it can risk their child’s life.
Joint advisories have also been issued by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Health Canada regarding the discovery of shorter bolts. Despite the recall and advisories, no accidents revolving around the defect have been reported yet.
Meanwhile, the organization is also offering free repair kits to people with shorter bolts. Anyone interested in acquiring the repair kit can call on the toll free number for IKEA 1-800-661-9807 and can visit a store for a replacement of the product as well.
