College students too will be benefited by healthcare reform

Insurance programme for college students was something that Congress completely missed out on while passing a landmark health care reform last year.

But the federal government seems to have realized the error and is intent on plugging that hole.

There are about three million college students and from next year, more protection will be provided by a favorable decision for these students who are covered under these policies. But it is being felt that in the forms of higher prices, there would likely be trade-offs.

It was proposed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that the standards of protection that the 2010 federal Affordable Care Act is outlined with are met by the student health insurance plans offered by colleges and universities.

Experts of health care stated that due to a population that was not there for a long time, student plans were originally exempt from the sweeping law.

About three key coverage areas of student plans will be changed and there will be some terms and conditions that will be clarified too.

John Desser, vice president of public policy for eHealthInsurance.com. said, “The objective of the government is to equalize how people are treated in the new world.”
