Yahoo, on Tuesday, introduced new capabilities of Yahoo BOSS of its Build Your Own Search (BOSS) program and new fees for using Yahoo BOSS, which is an application programming interface to let web developers tap the company's web-crawling and ranking results for use in their own sites.
In a blog post, three new features - SearchMonkey access, Long Abstracts, and two new BOSS services that will connect to Yahoo Site Explorer data were highlighted by Ashim Chhabra of Yahoo.
According to Yahoo, its Build Your Own Search (BOSS) program will be used by developers to access SearchMonkey, which can make search results more useful and attractive using structured data. Yahoo Search results are enabled to include deep links, images, and other extra goodies like ratings, addresses, and phone numbers by SearchMonkey.
Senior director of Yahoo's Open Search Platform, Bill Michels said, "We're exposing the structured data in SearchMonkey to all BOSS developers."
Paying fees, site owners will be able to use the results for monetization - making money from ads. The fees vary depending on content type, such as images or terms, with volume discounts. The company has published pricing details online.
