The elite crime busters of Scotland Yard confiscated one and a quarter million pounds worth dirty cash from gangsters in less than one year.

The Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency of Scotland had said that the haul was six times the size of the earlier twelve months and caused hoods unprecedented turmoil.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill, last night had praised cops over the confiscation and called it excellent news for decent people across Scotland.

Kenny MacAskill stated that as well as stopping thousands of kilos of drugs from reaching the streets, the police are targeting the hard cash that enables the gangsters to complete their dirty deals.

Taking away the important tools like money from their cheap trade is as good as taking away the status of the gangsters.

The massive seizure came in just ten months since last April and was up six hundred per cent on the £two hundred and seven thousand grab for 2009-10.

The success marked a shift in focus by the unit who now catch gangs before they can use the money to buy drugs.

Gordon Meldrum, the SCDEA boss stated that by attacking their cash flow the agency stop them from being able to invest in controlled drugs.

As per the views of the SCDEA, the cash seizures have prevented criminals from dealing with nearly fifteen million pound worth of narcotics.

Among their biggest seizure there was one worth two hundred thousand pounds that was grabbed from a crook.

The agency stated that the amount of money it had recovered could potentially have been used to buy about fifty six kilograms of heroin or twenty seven kilograms of cocaine.

The major portion of the cash was seized in raids on property and vehicle stops, including forty thousand pounds seized from a goods vehicle on its way to France and almost ninety thousand pounds seized from the home of a drug courier in England.
