O2 to sell “exclusive white version” of Sony Ericsson Xperia Play

According to a recent tweet posted on its official Twitter account, O2 has revealed that it will be ‘exclusively’ carrying a white version of the much-talked-about Sony Ericsson Xperia Play – informally referred to as the PlayStation phone or PSP phone – in the UK.

While the Xperia Play will also be available on other leading carriers, including Three, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone, the white version of the handset will be an ‘exclusive’ on O2.

Confirming the exclusivity for the white Xperia Play, the O2 tweet went thus: “Great news: not only will we be selling Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, we'll have an exclusive white version!”

The Xperia Play, which was formally introduced as the MWC 2011, will likely hit the market next month. Despite the fact that there has thus far been no official disclosure about the tariffs from network operators, online retailer Expansys has announced the SIM-free availability of the handset for £539.99.

The Xperia Play – the first ever handset to host the PlayStation suite – will run on Android 2.3 ‘Gingerbread’ version; and some of its key features include a 4-inch LCD touchscreen; a 1Ghz SnapDragon processor and a  5-megapixel camera.

The handset will also offer HD games at 60Fps; and 50 titles - including Guitar Hero, Assassins Creed, and Dead Space, among others - will be available at launch.
