Inflatable Mattresses Might Be a Health Risk

According to the chief coroner of Ontario, the use of there can be a significant risk to the patients by the use of therapeutic air mattresses. These mattresses are used in hospitals for the prevention of bed sores to the chronically ill patients.

The science behind these mattresses is the partial inflation and deflation in a controlled sequence. They are meant for the purpose of releasing the pressure on the skin that might cause bed sores.

According to Dr. Andrew McCallum, there might be circumstances in which the patient might get trapped between the bed rails, the bed frame and the mattresses.

Such a case was encountered in the year 2009 when an elderly patient got wedged between the bed rails and the mattress.

The Doctor was also of the view that these mattresses should be placed in such a way that there are no gaps between the bed and the mattress in order to avoid such miss happenings.

These are the hazards that new technology carries with itself and one needs to be careful about the consequences of the same.
