Genentech Given a Second Chance to Defend Itself

To prove that Avastin drug is the harmless and effectual cure for breast cancer, Genentech has been provided with an additional chance. The Genetech is the manufacturer of the drug. It will be presenting its case and all the supportive research in front of the U. S. regulators.

In a letter sent to Genentech's lawyers it was confirmed by the FDA that they will be provided with a two day public hearing on the June 28 and 29. To this letter Genentech responded by saying that they are enormously delighted with the second chance provided.

On December 16 FDA decided that the breast cancer indication for Avastin should be withdrawn. The drug maker disagreed and decided to fight against the decision. Genentech did also face a problem with the European officials when they said that except in certain cases of chemotherapy the use of the drug will not be permitted.

The June hearing is expected to create controversies. Genentech had requested FDA not to involve the agency's cancer advisers in the hearing to which FDA's lawyers responded that the decision for this will be made by the committee.

FDA requested the company for a meeting before the hearing. The agenda of the meeting would be to delineate the facts required
