A New Case of Bird Flu Reported From South Korea

A fresh case of bird flu has been reported from the southeastern region of South Korea. The new case was conformed on Sunday and it has increased the risk of spreading the disease in the country.

The new case of virus H5N1 was reported from a chicken farm in Yangsan, South Gyeongsang province, after some 60 chickens died in the farm. Following the test results the Quarantine authorities had culled 300 chickens and 100 ducks on the farm as precautionary measures.

Quarantine officials at the province said that they have been slaughtering about 13,000 ducks at poultry farms in Damyang to prevent the disease from spreading.

An official at the South Jeolla provincial government said that these quarantine measures have been taken to prevent the spread of avian influenza.

The Provincial government has planned to cull birds within a 500-meter radius of the infected farm. The recent case was first to be confirmed in three years in South Gyeongsang province.

The outburst of the flu was reported in South Korea in December last year. Since then, the authorities have put 5.5 million birds to death.
