Fears of Glass Pieces Affect Recall of Ground Beef from Calgary

The Canadian food inspection agency has warned the public that lean ground beef bearing a Westfair Foods Calgary sticker could contain pieces of glass and warned the public about eating it.

The 2.5 kg trays of ground beef were sold by a Real Canadian Superstore on Barons Road in Kelowna B.C. and are being recalled. The recall affects packages of fresh lean ground Beef Club Pack that carry a best before date of February 12th.

The agency said there have been no reports of any injuries or sickness from anyone who consumed the meat. This is the second incidence in less than a week for the company whose Westwinds location of a Real Canadian Superstore in Calgary was temporarily shutdown by a health inspector after live mice and droppings were found on the premises. It re-opened less than 24 hours later after a thorough cleaning.
