Even though Apple has not made any official disclosure about what product it intends unveiling at its media event on Wednesday, March 2, the invites sent out for the event hint at the introduction of the much-expected iPad 2 – the company’s second-generation iPad.
The invitations e-mailed to press last week, clearly reveal the image of a calendar page that has been peeled back to let slip the corner of an iPad – the next iPad, which is being speculated to be a modest upgrade from the original tablet.
According to reliable reports, some of the most notable changes that the iPad 2 will feature over its predecessor include a thinner and lighter overall design; faster processor; increased RAM; and a front-facing camera to facilitate video chat.
About the screen on the device, different reports have reported differently – while some say that the iPad 2 will boast a high-resolution display that Apple could call the “retina” display, fairly akin to the screen of the iPhone 4; some others reiterate that the screen resolution of the forthcoming iPad will be 1,024×768 pixels – that is, the same as that of the original iPad.
Apple is also likely to retain the iPad’s $500 starting price for its iPad 2, which - like the current iPad – will probably be packaged with 3G options for AT&T as well as Verizon subscribers.
