Pouring blood and guts instead of hearts, including breaking the record for horror flicks that saw the debut of 2004's 'The Grudge' bringing in $39.1-million, the re-make of 1980's 'Friday the 13th', opened at No. 1 spot over Valentine's Day weekend, raking in a cool $42.2-million,
The updated story of murderer Jason Voorhees' grisly rampage at a secluded summer camp, had a great opening with opening day also falling on Friday, 13th February and Valentine's Day the next day. Bringing laughs and screams, it managed to knock out last weekend's top earner 'He's Just Not That Into You' to second-place.
Among the new film releases, Disney's new comedy 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' starring Isla Fisher in the role of a magazine retail writer with compulsive buying habits, came in at No. 4, while 'The International' featuring Clive Owen as an Interpol agent and Naomi Watts as a prosecutor, exposing a bank's global misdeeds, stood at No. 7.
Oscar front-runner 'Slumdog Millionaire' continued to do well at the box-office, as publicity for the awards, helps increase awareness for the film each week.
