Foot-and-mouth Disease Outbreak in North Korea

According to the recent reports, a team of international animal specialist are visiting North Korea. They are visiting the country to help following an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.

The experts of OIE, also known as World Organization for Animal Health said on Friday that they are working in North Korea along with the local authorities. They are working in order to assess the disease and the outbreak. They are running researches on the possible vaccines which can prevent the disease from spreading further. The specialists from Food and Agriculture Organization are also involved in this activity.

According to reports, from North Korea last month, foot-and mouth disease have spread almost throughout the nation. The first instances of this disease were in Pyongyang last year. Thousands of animals died. The list also included cows and pigs.

Experts state that this disease does not affect humans. Only animals with cloven foot get affected.

The group of experts which reached North Korea consists of veterinarian diseases. It also comprises of a logistics officer and a lab technician. A veterinarian specialist is also included in the team.

This mission is to coordinate with the local bodies so that the spread of this disease can be controlled.
