Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread and Skippy Reduced Fat Super Chunk Peanut Butter Spread, the two varieties produced by the US food Company ‘Unilever’, were recalled by the Company after the probability of these varieties being contaminated with salmonella was proved in sample tests.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is coordinating the recall process with the Company. The affected products are in 16.3 oz plastic jar packing and are marked with UPC codes- 048001006812 and 048001006782.
Salmonella usually affects children and old age people with weak immune system and may cause serious or fatal infections. Diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever are the common symptoms shown by the person infected by salmonella and will be visible in 8 to 72 hours if the person has consumed contaminated product.
The FDA has stated that nobody has been reported unwell, yet by the consumption of Skippy peanut butter. Generally, healthy people recover without treatment in 4-7 days.
The retail outlets in Wisconsin, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Dakota, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Nebraska, Missouri, Minnesota, Maine, Iowa, Illinois, Delaware, Connecticut and Arkansas were supplied affected jars.
Consumers are advised to dispose of the purchased products with mentioned UPC codes. Unilever has offered replacement coupons to consumers and provided a toll free number 800-453-3432 for contact.
