Public Health Ministry of Thailand Shows Concern over Fish Spas

The Public Health Ministry of Thailand has shown concern over the safety of fish pedicures. The fish spas could spread infection or germs from one person to another through open wounds.

The job of ensuring the safety measures at fish spas was handed over to Health Service Support Department (HSSD).

The Director-General of HSSD, Dr. Somchai Pinyopornpanich says that their agency is discussing the matter with the Department of Fisheries and the Department of Health to find out the ways of controlling operations at the fish spas.

The operators of the fish spas are advised to use UV rays to clean the tools and an efficient water-filter system for the tanks. They are urged not to use a fish bigger than four inches. The fish should have no teeth and the water of the tank should be clean.

They are also suggested to check the feet of customers for wounds. The fish spas should preferably use Siamese algae eater or the flying fish. The operators are also requested to evaluate the health record of customers.

People, who have skin diseases, open or pus-filled wounds or diabetes are advised not to take the fish-spas.
