The University of British Columbia decided to open an animal research facility at the Kelowna campus to which the animal rights group Stop UBC Animal Research protested.
The university rather has been condemned by the Stop UBC Animal Research, as they complained them for keeping this project a secret. They alleged that people around the world are against animal research and therefore UBC is trying to carry their experimentation in secrecy. One of the group spokesperson Brian Vincent said "The fact that UBC wanted to keep this new facility hush-hush, tucked away in a basement out of sight shows the university does not want the public to know what it is doing to animals behind closed doors".
To this Hepburn the leader official of this research disagree saying that keeping in mind the concern of the animal lovers, during such researches low profile animals are taken. It is basically rat and mice on whom the animal research would be conducted at their centre.
This animal research facility is built in the basement of the Arts and Sciences building, and is now slated to open in September. With this service, the UBC Okanagan would become an important research university.
This animal research is expected to be relevant to the heath and wealth of people not just in Okanagan but all over the world.
